How to Apply & Program Eligibility
Thank you for your interest in the ACGME accredited Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Albany Medical Center/ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½.
Applicants to the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship must meet ACGME and ABS eligibility requirements, including board eligibility in one of the following specialties:
- General Surgery
- Urology
- Neurosurgery
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Vascular Surgery
- Thoracic Surgery
- Emergency Medicine
- Completion of a minimum of three years of postgraduate training (PGY 3) by the start of fellowship
- Appointment to a categorical residency position with an expectation to return to the sponsoring program upon fellowship completion, where applicable
Fellowship Tracks
The program offers two ACGME approved training pathways:
- One Year Surgical Critical Care Fellowship
- Two Year Emergency Medicine–Surgical Critical Care Fellowship
- Designed for graduates of Emergency Medicine residency programs
- The first year includes General Surgery rotations to satisfy the American Board of Surgery (ABS) requirements for general surgery training experience
Medical Licensure and Institutional Requirements
- Fellows must be eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of New York prior to appointment.
- Clinical privileges must be obtained at Albany Medical Center upon licensure.

Accreditation and Certification
- The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and approved by the Residency Review Committee (RRC) for Surgery.
- Applicants must be graduates of an LCME accredited medical school or hold ECFMG certification.
Application and Match Participation
- The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
- All appointments are made through the NRMP Match process.
